All of those rules resonate with me, actually. Hadn't thought of "liking everybody" as a part of "being liked" and look forward to unpacking that more. And I look forward to reading your book (heard you on Fields's Good Life Project podcast). Thank you for showing me this lens for permission to ease up on myself and others. You're helping me see that life isn't as difficult as I make it. Coincidentally: I'm creating a photo book for one of my brothers for his 60th, and oh my, I can sure see the roots of my behaviors in my body postures in these old photos!

Thanks again; may your ideas reach many people to brighten lives!

They definitely all resonate with me, too, in one way or another. I'm delighted you're looking forward to reading the book--I hope you love it and find it helpful!

I'm reading your book. Usually I read books in bed, fall asleep and can't remember what I read yesterday. How To Be Enough, though I've been reading in a chair (the first I've done that for decades!) because it's drawing me in and I am excited for the attitude release I am feeling. I'm fact, per your encouragement, I had the idea to use 2 bookmarks, skipping around chapters. In my efforts to "better" myself the last few years I've been learning a lot and, with your help, I'm seeing that I'm making even more rules for myself and others. Using my head too much, but a realization that my overevaluation (your key point) habit is key in this, and my tendency toward mistake-prevention isn't working.

This sentence about "acceptance" made me laugh out loud and ease up on myself (p 171): Making room for regrets sounds about as appealing as making room for a hippopotamus taking a dump in the middle of your living room." Also, the stories are fresh and so relatable.

Thank you so much for sharing your ideas in your direct and humorous way!

Literally me: "a self-imposed assignment to chip away at the 100 greatest novels of all time." I'm trying to stop turning one of my favorite activities into a chore. 🤣

I mean, a lot of these examples are from my own life...so you're in good company!
